Inuit Ataqatigiit wins 36% of the vote in legislative elections, and probably 12 seats in the parliament, the Inatsisartut. The controversy over allowing a Chinese company to mine rare earths has split the electorate. While it is financially a windfall, the mining could disrupt the ecology and environment of the island. The Kuannersuit deposit, in the island's south, is considered one of the world's richest in uranium and rare earth minerals.
