Coalition of Farmers and Greens Party and the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania returns Skvernelis to office as prime minister.

Second round of voting for Siemas. Homeland Union Party gains the most seats with 50, Farmers and Greens is second with 32 seats, the Social Democratic Party wins 13, the Liberal Movement 13, the Freedom Party 11, and the Labour Party 10.

First round of elections for the Siemas. COVID-19 surge may depress vote. Pre-election polls show Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis' Farmers and Greens Union marginally ahead of the ruling coalition of the conservative Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, the Social Democrats, the populist Labor party, and the centerright Liberal Movement. Discussions about a new ruling coalition are expected. The ruling coalition has been criticized for failing to provide support for people during a rigid stay-at-home period. There is also great disparity between economic levels.

Skvernelis becomes prime minister
President Dalia Grybauskaitė names Skvernelis prime minister. He has been confirmed by the Seimas.

Parliamentary elections in Lithuania. Interior Minister Saulias Skvernelis, an independent running with the Farmers and Greens Party, which had only one seat in parliament, finishes a close second with 22% of the vote and 54 seats in the Seimas. Subsequent negotiations with the Social Democratic Party make him the coalition’s candidate for prime minister.
