Final election results give the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) wins 38 of 62 seats in parliament, assuring Jugnauth another five-year term as prime minister. The Labor Party wins 13 and the Mauritian Militant Movement 9.

Parliamentary elections in Mauritius. It is the first election during Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth’s term. He was appointed after his father retirement in 2017. The two main opponents are Navin Ramgoolam and Paul Berenger, who accuse Jugnauth of nepotism and misuse of public funds. However, Mauritius has become one of Africa’s richest nations from tourism and the financial sectors. Jugnauth has also introduced a minimum wage.

Legislative elections scheduled for 11/7. Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth dissolves the National Assembly. There are seventy seats in the Assembly.

UN court orders UK to return Chagos Islands to Mauritius. The UK had taken the islands from Mauritius before independence in 1968 and evicted all the inhabitants so that a military base could be cconstructed on Diego Garica, the largest of the islands. The base is now leased to the US, for whom it is a key base for military operations in the Middle East.
