Rajoelina wins 58.9% of the vote. Turnout was only 46% after opposition boycott and the opposition refuse to recognize the result.

Madagascar’s opposition parties, the "Collective of Eleven," hold a rally of 50,000 people to protest what they call an “illegitimate” election process ahead of general elections in November. Last month, the country’s constitutional court dismissed appeals to have President Andry Rajoelina’s candidacy declared void over his dual French nationality, angering opposition. They say the electoral process is being orchestrated to ensure the victory of Rajoelina. The election will be held 11/16 after being delayed one week by the courts.

Constitutional Court dismisses objections from the opposition that Rajoelina's candidacy be declared invalid "for lack of Malagasy nationality" because he was naturalized French in 2014, which would bar him from holding office or being a candidate for an election. The court ruled the appeals "inadmissible." Rajoelina ceased to exercise power over the weekend, as provided for by the Constitution during campaigns. The President of the Senate, who was to act as interim president, cited "personal reasons" and left the reins to a "collegial government" led by the Prime Minister, Christian Ntsay, an ally of Rajoelina.

Rajoelina calls a constitutional referendum 5/27 to eliminate the Senate and increase powers of regional government, a pledge he made during his first presidential campaign. It is the same day as regional elections.

Election commission announces that Rajoelina wins the election with 54% of the vote to 46% for Ravalomanana, who rejects the results and calls for investigation.

Constitutional Court confirms a runoff 12/19 between Rajoelina (39%) and Ravalomanana (35%). Turnout was 53%. Ravalomanan withdraws his legal challenge to the vote about fraud.

Constitutional Court approves thirty-six candidates from presidential election 11/7, including current Pres Hery Rajaonarimampianina, and former presidents Andry Rajoelina and Marc Ravalomanana. A run-off would take place on 12/19.
