Nyusi re-elected
Nyusi is official declared president with 73% of the vote, and his Frelimo will have more than 180 seats in parliament of the 250. Renamo candidate Ossufo Momade won 22% and the party will have 60 seats.

Mozambique elections. Main candidates are Pres Filipe Nyusi, the first president from the north of the country and the first who did not fight in the revolution, although he did join FRELIMO at a young age. Although the economy has grown Nyusi is weakened by a scandal about secret loans and the Islamist insurgency in the north. Ossufo Momade is the leader of RENAMO, although he has lost some wupport within the group for his agreement to the peace deal that was initiated by his predecessor, Afonso Dhlakama. Daviz Simango has left both Frelimo and Renamo before forming the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) in 2009. Mario Albino was an unexpected candidate who heads the United Movement for Integral Salvation (AMUSI), created by former MDM members.
