Neves elected president
Neves wins the presidency outright with about 52% of the vote.

Presidential election scheduled for 10/17. The African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) has nominated former prime minister José Maria Neves and the Movement for Democracy (MPD) Carlos Veiga respectively. Current president Jorge Carlos Fonseca of the Movement for Democracy (MPD) cannot succeed himself. The main issue is the economy, hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ruling party retains power
Results of elections give the MpD 38 seats, and the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, formerly a Marxist-Leninist party, but now more mainstream and led by Janira Hopffer Almada) 30 seats.

Parliamentary elections on 4/18. The two main parties are the Movement for Democracy (MpD), led by Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, and the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde, led by Janira Hopffer Almada. However, new parties, including the Popular Party (PP), the Labour and Solidarity Party (PTS) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) are challenging the long-established parties in some districts.
