The far-right Swiss People’s Party (SVP) loses slightly, down to 26%. The Social Democrats win about 19% and the FDP.The Liberals (also called the Free Democratic Party) just over 16%. Climate change was a major factor. The Federal Council will be elected in December later this year by both chambers of the Federal Assembly and its members are nominated by the parties. In the past, the Council was composed of two members of the Free Democratic Party, two members of the Christian Democratic People’s Party (CVP), two members of the Social Democratic Party (SP), and one member of the Swiss People’s Party (SVP).
