New prime minister
Former attorney general Feleti Teo is named prime minister following elections in 1/24. Teo was the only candidate nominated by his 15 lawmaker colleagues and Governor General Tofiga Vaevalu Falani declared him elected without a vote.

Government investigating legal ways to relocate its lands and remain a country with fishing rights, etc, if the island is covered by rising seas.

Kausea Natano is elected prime minister by parliament, defeating prime Minister Enele Sopoaga. Sopoaga has worked to bring world attention to the effects of climate change on Tuvalu. Natano has also been a champion of action on climate change, but the election may have turned on Natano’s position advocating recognition of China instead of Taiwan.

At Pacific Island Forum, Tuvalu Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga suggests that Australian moderated concluding statement. Australia remains a stable partner for the island nations, but New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was more warmly welcomed than the Australian foreign minister Marise Payne, PM Morrison having declined to attend.
