Supreme Court voids the appointment of Pierliusi, saying that part of the law that Rosello used to appoint Pierliusi as his successor was unconstitutional. Pierliusi was confirmed by the lower house of the legislature, but not the upper. Wanda Vasquez, the justice minister, is sworn in as governor.

Legislature delays vote on Roselló’s chosen successor, Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia, as secretary of state, the office from which Roselló’s successor would come from according to the constitution. The previous secretary of state resigned in the scandal. Pierluisi was the lawyer for the detested oversight board. If the position is not filled on 8/2, when Roselló resigns, the Justice Minister, Wanda Vásquez would be next in line, but she has expressed no interest in becoming governor. However, Pierluisi was sworn in as secretary of state on 7/31.

Rosselló resigns
Rosselló resigns as of 8/2. He says that he will be succeeded by Justice Minister Wanda Vasquez, since the secretary of state has already resigned in the wake of the scandal. Protestors call for her to resign as well.
